Maude Rochette
Maude Rochette is a recently installed winemaker in the southern Beaujolais, just at the edge of Brouilly. While this area may not yet have the name recognition of Morgon, it has been a hotbed of new talent in recent years - from the inimitable Jean-Claude Lapalu to Cyrille Vuillod all the way to Emilie Hurtubise and Raphaël Beysang. Here at Vins de Lieu - we believe unsung great terroirs and fresh talent always deserve a spotlight, none more so than Maude Rochette. Maude is a compatriot of the aforementioned Emilie Hurtubise, both hailing from Quebec, and she received tutelage and support from Emilie and Raphaël upon moving to France. Maude has had a precocious career, working in the burgeoning Montreal food and wine scene since she was 18 and leading the floor as a sommelière in one of North America’s most progressive wine destinations.
These experiences fed her intrigue of the French producers that she found herself drawn to. She finally cut the cord and relocated to France where Emilie and Raphaël took her under their wing. She worked at their winery for three years while they helped her gain independence as a full-fledged vigneronne in her own right. She has forged ahead with her own style, producing uniquely fresh iterations of Beaujolais in a little-known corner of the appellation. Today, she is partnered up with Cyrille Vuillod - another in-demand talent that you can find in our portfolio. They are based in a cellar in Vaux-en-Beaujolais, and they recently collaborated on an en primeur bottling that is one of the best we have ever tasted. Grab now or forever hold your peace!
