Avis de Tempete
Avis de Tempête is the negociant range founded by Jura winemakers Raphaël Monnier of Ratapoil and Marie Bourdon. Both vignerons have their own domaines, but a disastrous 2017 vintage hampered by unforeseen frosts and hail forced them to turn catastrophe into opportunity. Thus, Avis de Tempête was born as a side project to supplement their own holdings by purchasing grapes from likeminded organic farmers, mostly in the Loire, but in other regions of France too. These grapes have always been bottled and vinified separately under the Avis de Tempête label for complete clarity between all of the estates and their wines. This is a fun project, a chance for the winemakers to work with varieties not usually seen in Jura, and the resulting wines are downright delicious. The wines are bottled unfiltered without the addition of sulfur.
*A word to the wise - since the wines are made in Raphaël’s own cellar in the Jura he is prohibited from putting the origin of the grapes on the label. To get around this, they include the name of an artist who hails from the appellation from which the fruit is sourced. Look out for this name on the side of the label when you grab a bottle - a nice tip of the cap from the winemakers to the learned!
